Film preservation and restoration implies an important amount of intimacy with the work that is being preserved. Beyond technical knowledge, to know and to understand the concerns and intentions of the artists whose work you are dealing with is fundamental, and that’s the reason why the best in this task are those who feel an immense passion for cinema and its creation. That’s the case of Ross Lipman, whose work goes beyond preservation towards creation and research, facets that crystallize in his work as a filmmaker and communicator, or as all these things at the same time. This is what happens in this presentation, a sort of expanded lecture, illustrated talk or performative master class, in which Lipman spread the word of the extensive investigation he made around one of the most fascinating works in film history, Bruce Conner’s Crossroads, a film that Lipman restored himself.
